city-of-sachse-texas-300x252About a mile north of Firewheel Town Center, in both Dallas and Collin Counties, is the popular city of Sachse, Texas. The city was named after William Sachse, a Prussian immigrant who arrived in Texas in 1845 and built one of the first cotton mills and gins in Collin County. After donating some of his holdings to the local railroad, a depot was built and named in his honor. Unfortunately, the name was misspelled and the new town was known for some time as Saxie. Like all new towns in the late 1800s, Sachse started small and slow. With only about 100 residents by the turn of the century, Sachse had its own bank, a Western Union station, three general stores, and telephone connections. In the next 50 years, the town became the 25th to be incorporated in Dallas County and the population would more than double with 250 people. Today there are more than 20,000 people living in Sachse and the popularity continues to grow.

car-show-sachse-txLiving in Sachse, there is plenty to do! We’ve already mentioned the close proximity to Firewheel Town Center, a gigantic Main Street-style shopping center with more than 125 stores, eateries, and entertainment. Residents often spend some quality time swimming, fishing, and boating out on Lake Ray Hubbard, which is only about a fifteen-minute drive away. Every year Sachse holds their annual Sachse Fall Fest, which features over 100 arts & crafts vendors, food, games, and live music. A guaranteed good time, year after year.

The city is served by two different school districts, depending on your location. Students living in Collin County attend Wylie Independent School District, which is made up of ten elementary, three intermediate, three junior high schools, and two high schools. Students in Dallas County attend Garland Independent School District, which is the 12th largest district in the state of Texas. Garland ISD is comprised of 72 campuses ranging from Pre-K through high school, most of which have been rated “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency.
