murphy-tx-water-towerIn the southeastern portion of Collin County, at the crossroads of Farm to Market Road and Murphy Road, is the popular city of Murphy, Texas. In 2010, Murphy was reported to have a population of 17,700 residents, a huge difference from 2000’s census of only about 3,000. The city encompasses five and a half square miles of land bordered by Plano, Richardson, SachseWylie, and Parker, and is about 30 minutes east of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

From the end of the 1800s to the middle of the 1900s, Murphy was nothing more than a shipping point for local farmers. But in the 1970s, the population started to increase due to businesses growing in nearby Plano and Richardson, making Murphy the mid-point. By 1990, there was well over 1,500 people residing within the city’s limits. Then in 1999, with the opening of the President George Bush Turnpike, Murphy started booming with housing developments, making it the city that is there today.
