McKinney Independent School District

mckinney-isdMcKinney Independent School District educates almost 25,000 children in more than 30 campuses and is one of the state’s fastest growing districts. As the #1 city to live in all of America, according to Money Magazine’s 2014 list, McKinney is home to some of the highest rated schools in Texas. Two years prior to that, it was named  one of the America’s Promise Alliance’s 100 Best Communities for Young People, a national award that recognizes outstanding and innovative work by cities across the country to address the high school dropout rate. The award also takes into account any programs and services that make the city an outstanding place for youth to live, learn, and grow.

Just recently, McKinney ISD was recognized for having six NCEA Higher Performing Schools, nine United Way/Cooper Institute Healthy Zone Schools, four NCLB National Blue Ribbon Schools, and two Intel Schools of Distinction for Innovative Teaching in Science and Engineering.

The district is one of only 21 in the state to be named by the College Board to the AP Achievement List for broadening the number of students taking AP courses, while at the same time increasing performance on the AP exams. In 2012, McKinney Independent School District was one of 44 districts to receive State Comptrollers Gold Designation every year and was the 2014 Recipient of Platinum Designation.

In addition to the Herman Lawson Early Childhood School, McKinney Independent School District is home to 20 elementary schools. These include:
